Area
utilities have certain requirements for establishing service,
including address of former provider, employment information,
driver's license number, Social Security number and phone numbers.
The
power utilities in Texas are in the process of being deregulated.
Sometime in 2002, consumers will have many choices for their
electric provider.
Reliant
Energy Houston Lighting and Power (HL&P) and Texas/New Mexico
Power supply electricity to the area. HL&P is one of the
nation's largest investor-owned, tax-paying utilities. Residential
electric bills are the sum of the base rate charges, plus
adjustment factors. The bill may include a franchise tax on gross
amount for service and sales tax. To arrange electrical service

Reliant
Energy Entex supplies gas to the area. To apply for service, phone
713-659-2111.
The
eight additional municipalities provide water / sewer services by
calling the individual city.
For
most utilities, new customers without credit must pay a deposit.
