Texas Government
The Texas state government, as
established by the Texas Constitution of 1876, is similar to that
of most states, with executive, legislative and judicial branches
governing Texas' 254 counties. Most elected officials serve
four-year terms. The Senate is comprised of 31 members, the House
of Representatives 150. The Texas Legislature meets each
odd-numbered year for 140 days and for special sessions called by
the governor.
Texas voters must be at least 18, a
Texas resident and U.S. citizen, and registered at least 30 days
prior to an election.
The judiciary is headed by the Texas
Supreme Court and by its coordinate court, the State Court of
Criminal Appeals. There are 330 district courts, each with an
elected judge.
Harris County /
Galveston County

structure established by the Texas Constitution. Each county is
divided into four precincts from which a commissioner is elected
to serve a four-year term. A county judge is elected from the
county at large.

from community to community.

infant seats.

passing the inspection, the operator receives a windshield sticker
