Uptown Holiday Lighting
One of Houston's favorite traditions, the 20th annual Uptown Holiday Lighting will illuminate the area skyline with more than half a million twinkling lights and a festive holiday show with local choirs and bands. For the finale, dazzling fireworks will light up the Houston skies.
This year's event will once again come alive on Thanksgiving evening, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, along Post Oak Boulevard in Uptown Houston. To learn about available sponsorship opportunities, call (713) 621-2011.

11th Annual Turkey Trot
For the past 11 years, hundreds of Houstonians have kicked-off their Thanksgiving holiday by participating in a healthy Houston tradition, the Turkey Trot. The annual fun run will take place in Uptown Houston on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit Sheltering Arms Senior Services, a non-profit agency that serves Houston's elderly. For more information on how you can participate, please visit
www.shelteringarms.org.

The Water Wall
Standing beside the tallest building in the nation outside of a downtown area, the Water Wall is a popular Houston landmark and tourist attraction. The 64-foot curved, black obsidian wall is an extraordinary sight and even more amazing when illuminated at night. Designed and created in 1985 by the internationally acclaimed architectural team of Philip Johnson and John Burgee, the Water Wall pumps 78,500 gallons of recycled water every three hours and 20 minutes. More than 180 live oaks shade the three-acre area that plays host to families and couples out for a stroll, picnic, or even a game of Frisbee. Brides and tourists often choose the location as a great place for the perfect photograph. The Water Wall is located at the corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Hidalgo.

Memorial Park
Memorial Park is truly an urban oasis for modern Houstonians. At 1,505 acres, Memorial Park is the largest urban park in Texas and Houston’s largest recreational area. It is one of the biggest central parks in the United States, larger by far than Chicago’s Lincoln Park or Central Park in New York City. Numerous drives, bridle paths, nature trails and walks wind through the park as well as the 265-acre Houston Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The park features an 18-hole tournament-quality municipal golf course and clubhouse, a tennis center, swimming pool, baseball diamonds and picnic grounds. The park also offers tournament-standard softball fields, volleyball courts, jogging and exercise trails and biking paths. Memorial Park is located on Memorial Drive, just inside the West Loop.

The Galleria
With its stunning architecture, exceptional stores and distinctive style, The Galleria has established itself as the number one shopping and tourist destination in Houston with more than 18 million visitors each year. Set beneath spectacular glass atriums, The Galleria features 370 fine stores and restaurants, an impressive ice rink and two Westin hotels. This world-class shopping complex showcases the best names in retail including Neiman Marcus, Cartier, Gucci, Macy's, Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, The Sharper Image, Ralph Lauren Collection and St. John. The 700,000 square-foot expansion that opened in March 2003 added 70 more fabulous stores, including Foley's Flagship and Houston's first Nordstrom, bringing The Galleria's total square footage to 1.7 million and making it the fifth largest mall in the nation. For more information, please call 713-622-0663 or

Lake on Post Oak
Known to those who work and live in Uptown Houston as an urban retreat, The Lakes on Post Oak reside within a 28-acre, park-like development at the corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Hidalgo. The three crystal blue ponds are nestled around three office buildings and surrounded by a lush landscape of trees and flowers as well as an assortment of wildlife including ducks and swans. During the work week, people often gather around the lakes to enjoy the fresh air, eat their lunch or feed the ducks. On weekends, families often frequent The Lakes on Post Oak to have a special family picnic, play Frisbee with their kids or bring their dogs to run, swim and play.

Uptown Shuttle  Catch a Ride - Fast. Free. Easy.
Last year, Uptown Houston launched a free midday shuttle to quickly and conveniently transport area workers, residents and visitors to the many fabulous restaurants and shops up and down Post Oak Boulevard.

The colorful, wood-trimmed shuttles run between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The shuttles, which are fully enclosed and air conditioned, make approximately 25 stops along Post Oak Boulevard between Uptown Park on the north and just north of Richmond Avenue on the south. The shuttles begin the route at different locations and pick up riders approximately every 10 minutes.

The Uptown Shuttle makes it fast, free and convenient to access all of the wonderful places there are to explore in Uptown Houston. So leave your car keys behind, get some fresh air and catch a ride on the Uptown Shuttle.

While most of the shuttle stops are at the same locations as current Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) bus stops, Uptown Houston has added extra stops to better serve the needs of the employees and visitors of some of the largest business and shopping complexes.

One of the World's Great Urban Centers
Anchored by Post Oak Boulevard, Uptown Houston is an urban community of exceptional beauty, sophistication, style and international prominence in the heart of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States.

Brimming with the energy, intensity and cosmopolitan appeal of the city, but softened by the security, graciousness and beauty of the suburbs, Uptown is one of the world's great urban centers
